2010 FIFA WORLD CUP, DAY 6

Switzerland scored this World Cup’s biggest upset yesterday with a 1-0 win over odds-on favorite Spain. For the Spanish, it was just their second loss in 50 games. The Swiss? They had never beaten Spain in 18 previous meetings.

The host country lost starting goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune before limping off with a 2-0 loss to Uruguay.

Khune was ejected on a controversial call by Swiss referee Massimo Busacca in the 76th minute for clipping the leg of Luis Suarez.

“He’s the worst referee in this competition,” said South African coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.
