Celtics tab Marcus Smart and James Young in 2014 NBA Draft

The “fireworks” that Celtics basketball of operations Danny Ainge promised this offseason did not go off Thursday night in the NBA Draft, but Boston may very well have found two centerpiece players for its future.

With the No. 6 overall pick, the Celtics selected Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart. Smart is a rugged point, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing in at 227 pounds. A team leader, Smart had an “out-of-character” episode with the Cowboys this past season when he shoved a Texas Tech fan (CLICK HERE TO VIEW VIDEO).

The Celtics needed to improve their shooting heading into the draft and may have helped solve that problem by drafting Kentucky swingman James Young at No. 17. Young is said to be a terrific pull-up shooter and can hit shots well coming off screens.
