Forget burying it, Jets drop the ball against Fins

Dolphins 10, Jets 6

What went wrong …

1 Sanchez to the wrong man — The Dolphins scored all 10 points off Mark Sanchez turnovers. Nolan Carroll picked off Sanchez in the first quarter to set up a Dan Carpenter 47-yard field goal to open the scoring. On the next drive, Kendall Langford raced around Wayne Hunter and stripped Sanchez, who was dancing in the pocket at his own 26-yard line. “The turnovers obviously hurt us early on,” coach Rex Ryan said. “We had poor execution on offense in particular.” It was Sanchez’s fifth turnover in the past two games, and this one led to a Brandon Marshall touchdown six plays later.

2 Huge drop — The Jets actually forced three turnovers yesterday but couldn’t capitalize. There was no bigger opportunity than when Calvin Pace stripped Chad Henne in Miami territory in the second quarter. Sanchez took over and sent a long pass to Santonio Holmes, who had just completed a double move and was wide open in the end zone. The ball hit Holmes in stride but bounced off his sternum and the Jets settled for a field goal.

3 Slippery when wet — Sanchez seemed unsure of himself, holding the ball way too long. He finished with four fumbles and was sacked six times.
