FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The New York Jets are clearly on the rise and there is now no better testament to that than the odds of this being a championship team.

The team is now 40:1 to win the Super Bowl according to gaming site Bovada, a meteoric rise after a surprisingly strong start under first-year head coach Todd Bowles. It is a sign that the Jets should be squarely and deservedly in the early talk about the postseason.

The team’s odds understandably fluctuated over the course of a very active offseason, one where they bolstered their secondary and added some weapons on offense but before the start of Week 1, Bovada had the team at 100:1 to win the Super Bowl. It was the fifth worst Super Bowl odds of any team in the league, showing admitted skepticism about the rebuilding job.

Now a 3-1 start that includes two road wins and the Jets are improving in the eyes of oddsmakers. They are 40:1 to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy, bettered after a bye week when they sat at 50:1.

As of September 10, the Jets had the worst odds to win the AFC East, at 12:1. Now they are in second place at 10:1 to win the division, behind only the New England Patriots who are at 1:15.
