Keith Olbermann returning to ‘hell’ at ESPN

Keith Olbermann is returning to ESPN. Keith Olbermann is returning to ESPN.

As had been rumored for quite some time, ESPN is expected to bring back Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann left ESPN 16 years ago, briefly joining FOX Sports before hosting his own political talk shows. His most recent sports appearances came on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” when he appeared alongside longtime partner Dan Patrick doing highlights. Patrick is a member of the NBC Sports family, hosting his own radio show and is not expected to return to the Bristol, Conn station.

If ESPN announces the decision Wednesday, it will be one month to the day until their newest competitor, FOX Sports 1, launches.

Olbermann brought a fair share of controversy to the network throughout the 1990s and was the subject of much disdain in a popular book on the history of ESPN, “Those Guys Have All the Fun.” The former MSNBC and Current TV host once appeared on Craig Kilborn’s nightly CBS talkshow and was asked, “Where is the center of hell?” in a “Ten Questions” segment. Olbermann replied, “Bristol, Conn.,” with a smirk.
