Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was fined $2,820.52 by the NHL Sunday for squirting Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in the face with water out of a water bottle in Game 5 of the Boston-Montreal series Saturday at TD Garden.

Late in the third period, Subban skated by the B’s bench when Thornton threw his H20 fit.

“I obviously got caught up in the moment,” Thornton said. “I’ll pay the fine and move on. I’m sorry that the silly incident kind of overshadowed how my teammates played, the great win and how good the series has been.”

Subban also talked about the incident late Saturday.

“I don’t know if it was [Thornton] but someone had squirted water twice at the end of the game in my visor and I couldn’t even see for a minute and a half,” Subban said. “I was pretty upset about that but that is part of the game.”

Thornton and Subban have been getting on each other’s nerves since Game 2 in the series when Thornton accused the Habs defenseman of “ducking.” Subban’s ole made Thornton have to leave Game 2 briefly, due to injury.
