Syfy’s new take on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” is full of magic — just as much offscreen as on, apparently.
With a cast that includes Kathy Bates as the Queen of Hearts, Harry Dean Stanton as Caterpillar and Tim Curry as Dodo, a work environment that is the stuff of dreams isn’t too hard to imagine. But the actors are quick to give all the credit for this surreal standout of a miniseries to their director, Nick Willing.
“Nick has not only written a script that’s psychologically compelling and that has a tremendous amount of adventure and sex and chases and all kinds of fun things going on, crazy things in crazy environments,” enthuses Bates, “but as a director, he really creates a set that has a sense of play.”
