Contrary to an earlier report from Wednesday, the Calgary Flames traded right wing Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins and not the Boston Bruins, according to the Penguins.

Earlier in the night, TSN’s Aaron Ward tweeted that the Bruins had landed Iginla. The Flames scratched Iginla late Wednesday for their game against the Avalanche.

Rumors of an Iginla-to-Boston trade heated up Wednesday night as the Bruins played the Canadiens at TD Garden. Iginla has been the face of the Flames franchise since the late 1990s and is in his 16th NHL season. A consistent scorer, the 35-year-old Iginla has 22 points on the year and posted 67 points last season.

Of his many milestones in the league, Iginla is noted as the first black captain in NHL history, an honor he received in the 2003-04 season with the Flames.
