Vince Wilfork asks for release from Patriots

Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has asked for his release from the New England Patriots after is believed that the team asked him to restructure his contract.

The 32-year-old Wilfork will be entering the final year of his contract in 2014 is due a base salary of $7.5 million. Wilfork tore his right Achilles tendon against the Falcons in Week 4 last year and missed the rest of the 2013 season.

Wilfork, a team captain, has made five Pro Bowls in his career with the Patriots and is one of the longest tenured New England players having been drafted 21st overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.
