Mark Dion: Misadventures of a 21st Century Naturalist
Mark Dion playfully wrestles with the tension between human and the rest of Earth in his installations. In this show, the first American survey of his work, we find such oddities as the libraries for birds, which employ real birds, and a museum-like diorama of a landfill. Pro tip: check it out on a Thursday, when admission’s free.

The Real and Reel Casablanca; American Troops Enter World War II, Landing in North Africa
Fact and fiction collide in this exhibition on both the 1942 classic “Casablanca,” and the American invasion of North Africa in November 1942, after which the film was rushed to release, to benefit from the headlines. The artifacts on display are mostly from the invasion, but there’s a couple from the film, including a chair from Rick’s Café.

Boston Jewish Film Festival
Through it’s actually a year-round thing, the Boston Jewish Film Festival is also synonymous with this two week bevy of screenings. Some highlights include “Bombshell,” a documentary on actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr, “Keep the Change,” a rom-com about an autistic couple, and “The 90 Minute War,” a mockumentary imagining peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: one epic soccer game.

Tegan and Sara
Over almost two decades as musical duo, twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have incorporated elements of punk, pop and electronic music into an unique sound, achieving mainstream recognition while keeping their indie cool. They’re on tour supporting their most recent record, “The Con X: Covers,” featuring the sisters’ renditions of their favorite LGBT artists.

Hassle Fest 9
Masterminded by the volunteer-run non-profit BRAIN Arts Organization, Hassle Fest is one of the biggest annual underground music festivals in Boston. 2017 Headliners include such notables as electronic wizard Dan Deacon, longtime eccentrics Xiu Xiu and proto-punk icons Pere Ubu, plus lesser-known acts with such choice monikers as Buck Gooter, Sunburned Hand of the Man and Pink Navel.

The Art of Rap Tour
A living companion piece to Ice T’s documentary “The Art of Rap,” this show includes a truly stacked lineup of old school hip hop legends, including Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Rakim, EPMD and Slick Rick. If you haven’t learned something about the art of rap from watching these guys in action, you are officially hopeless.

Matthew Weiner
Given his role in the renaissance of “prestige television,” it’s not surprising the “Mad Men” creator and writer Matthew Weiner might try a different medium altogether. Now he’s got a novel, “Heather, the Totality,” about the rather eventful collision of the lives of two young people: the privileged, smothered Heather and the poor, neglected Bobby. He’ll discuss it at the Brattle Friday night.

How Did This Get Made?
Every now and then a film comes along so charismatically inept, so unintentionally ridiculous, that one can only wonder, in between fits of laughter, “How did this get made?” Comedians Paul Scheer Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael host a podcast of the same name, asking just this question about dozens of films; they’ll be breaking down a couple here in Boston this weekend.

Boston Bhangra Competition
Every year, Bhangra teams from colleges across the country gather at the Orpheum for an epic throwdown full of colorful costumes, bangin’ beats and synchronized dance moves. Going strong for more than a decade, the Boston competition is renowned in the Bhangra community as one of the best going, and it’s only growing.
