3 hot trends at the International Beauty Show

We asked Dana Lupton, who oversaw the 2012 expo, for her input on some of the coolest beauty fads.

1. Hair chalk

The latest craze in temporary hair color easily washes out, so it’s perfect when you’re looking for a no-fuss dramatic shift. Just rub it on and mist with hair spray. “That’s definitely one of the new buzz things that’s going on,” says Lupton.

2. Natural hair care

“People are worrying about what they’re putting in their hair,” Lupton says. “We’re seeing people becoming more green and selective about the types of things that they’ll use, and companies are answering to that.” One line we like is Yarok: a totally vegan, botanical collection free of alcohol, parabens, sulfates and cruelty.

3. Nail appliques

Forget spending extra time at the salon while your manicurist paints on tiny flowers or polka dots: Stick-on designs are the way of the future. “It’s all about the bells and whistles that people are used to,” Lupton says. “Nail care is an explosive vertical market right now in the beauty world.”

One celeb fan is Christina Aguilera, who was spotted wearing Dashing Diva’s DesignFX on her digits this season on “The Voice.”

Available at Dashing Diva and other salons, $35 for a natural manicure, $45 with gel
