1 How many defensive players do they draft?
The Jets have only drafted one defensive player in their two drafts under head coach Rex Ryan, a trend that likely will end in a major way this weekend.
They used their first-round pick Thursday to select defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson from Temple. At 6-foot-4, 315 pounds, Wilkerson is strong enough to drive linemen straight back off the snap. He totaled 161/2 sacks while starting 25 games his last two seasons at Temple.
The Jets are still likely to search out more D-line help, such as Jerrell Powe out of Ole Miss.
2 Are the Jets giving up on Kyle Wilson?
Last year’s first-round pick from?Boise State was given every opportunity as both a starter and in the nickel package but was pretty overwhelmed in either role.
While this draft appears deep at corner, it also wouldn’t be surprising to see Tannenbaum and Ryan look midround at safety options. The team was impressed with in predraft interviews with Rutgers’ Joe Lefeged, who has drawn comparisons to hard-hitting James Ihedigbo.
3 Will Mark Sanchez get any new toys?
Three of the Jets top four receivers — Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes and Brad Smith — are free agents and they’ll be lucky to bring back two of them. That will be just fine if they can steal a quality receiver in the late rounds. After all, Sanchez has Pro Bowlers who recently signed extensions pass-blocking for him, so even rookies will have time to get open.
Ricardo Lockette of Fort Valley State, a real speedster, could have appeal on Day 3. Aldrick Robinson of SMU or Cal’s Jeremy Ross could play wide receiver and return kicks, an added bonus.
