3 ways to destress on Election Day in NYC

After you vote tomorrow, don your sticker and beam with civic pride (your sticker will also earn you free drinks and other deals around town), for about five minutes you might feel OK about yourself and the world. But before long, you’ll feel that tightness in your chest, which probably won’t abate until the election results come out Tuesday night (here’s hoping).

Deepak Choprashared his tips for keeping your anxiety at bay from now through election night, but if you’re looking for a way to blow off steam in NYC, here are a few ideas. Once you loosen up, hit up one of these election night parties.

If you’re able to take off work Tuesday (Chopra endorses it!) treat yourself to a post-vote stroll around Wave Hill, the Bronx public gardens and cultural center, offering free admission tomorrow from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The 28-acre estate overlooks the Hudson River and the New Jersey Palisades; taking in those views as you walk the grounds is sure to lower your blood pressure.

From today, Nov. 7 through Friday, Nov. 11, NoHo’sHaven Spahas deals on election-themed treatments that will chill you out despite your party loyalty. The “Geek Massage,” described as “something Hillary should get her overworked IT people” is a 60-minute massage designed to relieve muscle aches and pains from being hunched over a computer ($100, normally $140). The cheekily named “Bitch Massage” for all of “Donald’s ‘girls'” uses pressure points and oil aromas to relieve symptoms of anxiety and insomnia, as well as premenstrual camps and pain (also $100, down from $140). Finally, “if you’re feeling a little toxic from the race to the White House,” detox with a Makizushi Wrap, a 45-minute algae-based body scrub and mask ($75, normally $95). Call to book an appointment.

Bright and early Wed. morning, you can sweat out your election night hangover and dance away all that pent-up anxiety at a pre-work Sock Hop Celebration, hosted by Daybreaker NYCat Space Ibiza in Hell’s Kitchen.6 a.m.-7 a.m. is a designated fitness hour, followed by a dance party from 7 a.m.-9 p.m., with techno tunes from DJ Tasha Blank and surf/rockabilly jams from the Florida-based bandPatrick and the Swayzes. And the event is for a good cause, beyond your own mental health: sock hoppers will be given a pair of socks to donate to person in need, via nonprofit Knock Knock Give a Sock.RSVP here.
