3-year cleanup – Metro US

3-year cleanup

Edmonton is gearing up for a three-year cleanup, as city officials polish details to the plan to make Edmonton squeaky clean.

Capital City Cleanup initiatives continue to grow, with new ideas on the table, set to begin later this year.

Graffiti is at the top of the list for dirty jobs to tackle, and a plan to purchase a graffiti removal van. A public education campaign will be launched, and a team of volunteers will be assembled to clean up tags around the city.

A proposed solution put before the Transportation and Public Works committee is to create more space for street art murals to encourage taggers to spray elsewhere.

The initiative will also look into fixing the problem of wayward litter, left to blow all over the roads after being left behind in garbage trucks.
