FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Day 5 of training camp is in the books for the New York Jets as the team begins to come together, flaring tempers and all.

Tuesday saw some emotions rise as the players begin to tire of going up against each other time-and-time again. The big names didn’t necessarily come out to shine today as several players fighting to make the roster turned in the star showings of Tuesday.

But it was a good day for five Jets players who stood out on Day 5 of training camp.

5. Marcus Williams – He rose to a significant role with the team towards the middle of last season and Williams continues to look like a contributor. He’s long and has good footwork. On Tuesday, he made some good plays in one-on-one drills and was solid in his coverage in the 11-on-11 sessions. He gave a little too much cushion at times but he looks solidly entrenched on the two-deep. Williams isn’t being talked about much but he should be.

4. Tommy Bohannon – The fullback was fluid getting out of the backfield and made some nice catches in the 11-on-11 session. He looks lighter on his feet this year. With the Jets likely to carry a fullback, it is a good bet that Bohannon makes the roster. Remains to be seen how his blocking looks but Bohannon made the recently cut J.C. Copeland expendable.

3. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Geno Smith struggled on Tuesday but Ryan Fitzpatrick put in a very solid effort. He got the ball out of his hands quickly and in the right spot. He’s mostly accurate and reads the defense well. First real session where he’s looked better than incumbent starter Geno Smith. Threw a dart to Shaq Evans in the 11-on-11 session and found Saalim Hakim over the top on a perfectly placed 35-yard pass.

2. Buster Skrine – He looks and plays like a No. 2 cornerback. While Darrelle Revis has been nothing short of stellar in training camp, Skrine is the second most consistent cornerback on the roster. He reads the game well and his break to the ball is outstanding. He’s a pesky player and is the most physical cornerback on this roster. Jets fans are going to love him.

1. Chris Owusu – He did it again, the wide receiver putting in some of the best performances of training camp to date. Owusu has elite speed but now he’s been holding onto his passes and been solid in his route-running. Right now, he’s penciled into the 53-man roster alongside Shaq Evans, who is looking good as well.
