5 reasons to go to the movies this weekend

1. “Tower Heist”

The East Coast answer to “Ocean’s 11” stars Ben Stiller as an apartment building manager who assembles a group of fellow disgruntled employees to steal back the pension money that building owner (Alan Alda) squandered in a Madoff-esque scam.

2. “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas”

Our favorite modern-day Cheech and Chong are back six years after crashing Guantanamo Bay for a very stoney Christmas adventure. Prepare to dodge eggs, hats, fingers and traffic cones in what is probably the only comedy to make the most of its 3-D effects.

3. “In Time”

In the future, no one ages beyond 25 after the aging gene is switched off, but time on Earth is bartered like money. Can sexy co-stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried knock this one out of the park? We’re hoping so.

4. “Puss in Boots”

How not surprising is it that after beating the “Shrek” franchise into the ground, there’s now a prequel about one of his sidekicks? We live in a world where cartoons are getting prequels, folks. Anything can happen next.

5. “The Rum Diary”

Johnny Depp once again assumes the mantle of Hunter S. Thompson in this adaptation of the writer’s novel about a journalist working at a San Juan newspaper in the 1950s.
