80-year-old man cited for driving wrong way along Mass. Pike for three miles

A Westwood octogenarian drove his car three miles in the wrong direction on the Mass Pike Monday afternoon and caused a three-car fender-bender, state police said.

The 80-year-old man was driving toward the city, but went in the wrong direction at the Allston-Brighton tolls, a state police spokespersontold WCVB.He eventually crashed into a median in Newton.

The driver was taken to a hospital in Brighton with minor injuries, the Newton Tab reported.

After crashing his Cadillac, three other cars collided in the breakdown lane. No one was injured in that mishap, police said.

The man was not identified by police who said will be cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, wrong way operation and marked lanes violation.
