‘A high school team could have beat us’: Esks’ Hall

Richie Hall is running out of answers for the questions being asked of his 2-7 football team.

The head coach faced the media once again yesterday after another lopsided loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Labour Day. “A high school team could have beat us yesterday,” he said. “It is very disappointing, the way we went out there and lacked execution. Too many mistakes and a lack of just playing fundamental football.”

The rematch between the two provincial rivals goes on Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium.

Hall said he still has faith in his players and that they can only get better from here.

“We line up again on Friday night and I do still believe in our guys,” he said. “I do believe that we will get it turned around.”

The Eskimos added an offensive lineman to the roster yesterday, signing Kelly Bates from the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Eskimos gave up a 2014 draft pick for the 35-year-old Humboldt, Sask., native. “We’re looking to get better up there,” Hall said. “We’re not satisfied, so we’re really happy to have Kelly here.”
