Known for their pop-up pubs, the Peabody Main Streets community organization will put on its second outdoors ice bar event with beer and wine on March 3.

The evening will feature a DJ, a serving counter made out of ice and an alcohol luge. Vendors Ipswich Ale and North Shore Lobster will serve drinks and hot clam chowder.

Last year’s bar brought in visitors to this small town from all over Massachusetts, even in four-degree weather. The DJ played the “Macarena,” selfies were taken in furry coats and organizers put out heaters for the hundreds of visitors who stopped by.

President and CEO of the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce Deanna Healey revealed to the Metro that last year’s event brought in an increase of 20 percent more foot traffic for downtown restaurants and businesses.

“Peabody is very fortunate in that it has a very tight knit community. People really have a strong love for this city,” Healey says. “There’s a lot of different groups coming together to make things happen together. Peabody Main Streets is not specific to any group of people, but bringing people to gather from all places and sharing what’s unique about Peabody.”

Peabody’s city organizers recently implemented new traffic infrastructure and landscaping, and gatherings like the ice nar help boost the revitalization of city’s center. In November of 2017, a local developer invested four million dollars in revamping a Main Street building.

“A lot of people don’t have a reason to go downtown, but it’s nice to show what’s been going on in the area,” Healey adds. “People look for a reason to get out and be together.”
