Acadian group wants apology for flag burning

An Acadian group is demanding a public apology after their flag was burned outside a hockey arena at the Universite Sainte-Anne in Church Point on Friday.

The Federation Acadienne de la Nouvelle-Ecosse sent out a statement yesterday saying the flag burning shows “an important lack of respect, not only for the flag, but also for the people it represents.”

A Barrington Passage hockey fan lit up an Acadian flag after his team, the Ice Dogs, lost to the Clare Lions.

“FANE hopes this is an isolated incident which will not be repeated otherwise legal proceedings may be undertaken against the persons responsible,” was written in the statement.
