The 24-year-old sister of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev pleaded guilty in South Boston Municipal Court Tuesday to misleading a Boston Police detective as he investigated the passing of a counterfeit bill at a local restaurant. Ailina Tsarnaeva now faces up to two-and-a-half-years in prison if she reoffends in the next 30 days, according to Suffolk County District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark. The sentence would be the maximumpenalty for witness intimidation in municipal court. Prosecutors say Tsarnaeva was uncooperative with an investigation into a 2010 passing of a counterfeit bill at an Applebees in Boston. Tsarnaeva gave a ride to the person suspected of passing the fake bill, but was not forthright with a Boston Police detective who was trying to track down the suspect. Tsarnaevahas also faced previous charges in New York for allegedlymaking threats against her husband’s ex-girlfriendby saying she could “put a bomb where you live.” Her brother, 21, is awaiting trial on the April 2013 terror attack that killed three people and injured 264. He is also accused, along with his late brother Tamerlan, the suspected bombing mastermind, of shooting dead an MIT police officer days after the attack.
