Activist decries lack of response to concerns

Standing outside the main entrance of Boston Police Department headquarters in Roxbury yesterday, Sadiki Kambon was upset.

He had expected since the weekend to meet with Commissioner Ed Davis and City Councilor Tito Jackson to talk about his concerns with police excessive force and a fatal police shooting earlier this year.

Instead, he said he received a call from Jackson’s office just before yesterday’s scheduled meeting that it had been canceled.

Kambon, the director of the Black Community Information Center in Roxbury, said he felt “disrespected.”

“We just want you to explain some basic things that everyone out here has questions about,” Kambon said.

The incident occurred in September when Mark McMullen, 44, allegedly fled from police in Boston. The chase ended in Rockland with McMullen fatally shot.

A police spokeswoman said it would be inappropriate for Davis to discuss an ongoing investigation.

A call placed to Jackson was not returned by press time.
