Adoptapalooza coming to Prospect Park this weekend

Over 150 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for fawning over and adoption at this weekend’s Adoptapalooza in Prospect Park.

This will be the first time the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals will be holding an Adoptapalooza in Brooklyn. The alliance promises the event will be “an afternoon of fun for people of all ages.”

“Every year, Adoptapalooza, our mega-pet-adoption-event, helps raise awareness about why it’s so important to adopt from a rescue group or shelter,” President of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Jane Hoffman wrote in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring Adoptapalooza to Brooklyn for the first time. We know that Brooklynites will open their hearts and homes to these wonderful pets.”

There will be a ton of perks for those who do plan on adopting that day, including free personalized pet tag giveaways, free photo-ops for pets and their humans, dog licensing by the NYC Department of Health and free pet food.

“This is a happy event!” Hoffman told Metro “This is an event where these animals are available hopefully in a happy park environment, a family friendly environment, where they’ll be able to find great new homes.”

Most of the pets available have all been spayed, neutered and microchipped.

Adoptapalooza will be in Prospect Park’s Bartel-Pritchard Square rain or shine on Saturday, August 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
