Aerial mapping hunts border holes

Researchers at Simon Fraser University are using advanced mapping techniques and aerial photography to identify potential routes for illegal border crossings between Canada and the United States.

Margaret Kalacska, a research fellow at SFU’s School of Criminology, said expanding knowledge of remote areas of the border will allow law enforcement to better allocate resources.

The research will help border services secure and monitor trails for drug traffickers and illegal crossings.
