Airdrie residents lend hand to fire victims

Agencies and citizens in Airdrie are banding together to provide relief for victims of Monday night’s fire, after three homes were destroyed and another badly damaged.

It comes as no surprise to nearby resident Naomi Laton, whose husband, Tyler, was credited with likely saving the lives of two people by warning them of the fire, saying that all of the families on the street will join in the effort.

“We’ll pitch in and give clothes or anything, just to get them through for now,” she said.

“Just little things like that, I’m sure the whole community will help for sure.”

According to the Airdrie RCMP, efforts are underway to organize a central collection point for donated goods. Anyone looking to donate to the families can email Dan McEwing at dmcewing@telus.net.

In the meantime, a barbecue fundraiser has been organized for this Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to raise money for the families. It will be at the Scout’s Hall, 720 East Lake Rd. in Airdrie.
