Alleged drug lords face charges in Hub

BOSTON. The alleged heads of a Colombian drug organization are in Boston to face criminal charges after authorities here and in the South American country broke up their “sophisticated” multimillion-dollar operation.

Authorities seized nearly three tons of cocaine in the investigation they dubbed “Operation Beanpot.” Agents posing as money launderers for the drug traffickers made money drops here and in other parts of the country and world, authorities said.

The operation, allegedly headed by Leyvan Alvarez-Bastidas, 39, utilized Filipino merchant marines who would bring the product through a port in New Orleans.
