If you don’t want to send packages to your Boston apartment, but you can’t quit Amazon, don’t worry – the online retail giant has another option coming for you.
A fully-staffed Amazon pickup location is coming to 870 Commonwealth Ave., an Amazon spokesperson confirmed.
Elements Massage, also at 870 Commonwealth Ave., is downstairs, an employee said, with the Amazon store upstairs at the same address.
This isn’t Amazon’s first foray into this idea of a separate shipping location other than your home address. Amazon Lockers have been appearing around the country, usually in already-established businesses like convenience stores and supermarkets.
An Amazon Locker serves as a shipping location if you don’t want to send something right to your home. Once delivered, you get a notification with a pickup code for your specific locker.
Multiple Amazon Locker locations exist around Boston, for example at a Sunoco in Brookline, a Speedway on Cambridge Street in Allston and at a 7-Eleven on Commonwealth Avenue.

The Amazon pickup location coming to Comm Ave. will “offer the community a convenient way to pick up and return Amazon orders, including virtually everything one needs – from everyday essentials to technology,” spokesperson Carly Golden said in an email.
All Amazon customers can ship their orders to a pickup location, and Prime members receive free same-day and one-day delivery on millions of items,” she continued. “Plus, returns are always free.”
This is different, however, from yet another service the company recently debuted: Instant Pickup.
Instant Pickup seems to directly compete with convenience stores, allowing Prime users to purchase cold drinks, snacks and personal care items that will then be available for pickup “in two minutes or less,” according to the company.
The company announced Instant Pickup on Tuesday at Amazon fully-staffed pickup locations in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Berkeley, California, Columbus, Ohio, and College Park, Maryland. Golden added that “we are excited to offer it at more of our locations soon. Stay tuned for more details!”
That update is also not the only reason Amazon has once again made headlines. On Wednesday, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to blast the company.
“Amazon is doing great damage to tax paying retailers,” he wrote. “Towns, cities and states throughout the U.S. are being hurt – many jobs being lost!
