An unwelcome guest

Tracy Turner awoke from a dream only to crash into a nightmare.

Pungent smoke from still-spinning tires overwhelmed her Oakmount Dr. SW home at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the side of a 1999 Ford pickup truck sat where her front picture window used to be, glass covered her hardwood floors and dirt from a house plant sprayed more than 15 feet up the main stairs and wall.

“What the hell is that,” said Turner. “I had no idea what had just happened and when I came down stairs, there was glass shattered all over the place, I couldn’t believe it.”

The truck hit a parked contactor’s GMC van before essentially threading a needle, tearing up Turner’s lawn and missing a large evergreen before sheering off the inside corner of her house by the front door and coming to rest just inside her two-car garage.

The driver, pinned inside the truck, was removed by EMS before being transported to hospital in stable condition and police said they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Turner said it was the first, and hopefully last time she’s had an unexpected guest barge into her home in the wee hours and she expects it will cost more than $50,000 to clean up and fix the mess.
