Christmas Eve will likely bring record rainfall and warmth along with a major storm that is expected to drench the Boston-area.
In a statement issued early Sunday, the National Weather Service said astorm system will move down from the north and impactthe Boston region around Christmas Eve. “This will bring the potentialfor moderate to heavy snow in the mountains and lightaccumulations to the valleys. Temperatures are expected to remainabove average through early next week…before dropping downtoward normal values by Christmas Day. Another winter storm mayaffect the region for next weekend,” the statement read. Sunday saw a light blanket of rain early in the day, though snow had subsided by late morning. Gusty winds were expected through Sunday afternoon.
That snow may return on Christmas day, according to the weather service: “Many of you asked for it, and nowit looks more likely that there will be at least a little bit ofsnow for Christmas day for many locations across the InlandNorthwest. No promises.”
