Assault charge laid in rave rape

A man has been charged with sexual assault in relation to a Pitt Meadows rave rape that shocked the community last year.

RCMP announced Thursday that the charge has been approved against Colton Ashton McMorris, 18.

Dennis John Allen Warrington, 19, and a 16-year-old arrested late last year are also facing charges of producing and distributing child pornography.

On Sept. 10, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and raped by a group of people at a rave.

Pictures and video of the incident were then posted to social networking sites like Facebook.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Peter Thiessen said a “code of silence” has prevented police from making more arrests.

“We can’t force people to talk to us, whether they are a group of teenagers or hardened criminals,” Thiessen said. “There are individuals out there that played a significant role in this.”

Police released a statement from the family saying the teen victim “has been bullied and therefore has had to leave school” in the aftermath of the incident.

McMorris and Warrington will appear in Port Coquitlam provincial court Jan. 12.
