We all know that college students love coffee. Widener University is taking that love to a new level with its Cultivation to Cup program. Inside Higher Ed reports that through a partnership with Golden Valley Farms Coffee Roasters in West Chester, the university is offering a three-credit course on sustainable development and farming.
Students who have taken the course had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica to help harvest coffee and do research. Widener has even launched its own line of coffee, WU Brew, to help fund the class and the international travel. The speciality coffee costs $13.99 per pound, with $4.35 going to the farmers who grow it.
The university expects to send 12 more students to Costa Rica this January.
