Auditor general defends report

Alberta’s auditor general’s office is still standing behind an October 2007 report that says the province missed out on billions of dollars in oil royalties owed by energy companies.
Doug Wylie, Alberta’s assistant auditor general who helped write the report, says he still supports it, one day after the province released an internal report that stated there was no evidence to support claims that Albertans are not getting “their fair share.”
“We’re not changing any of our comments that have been included in our October report,” said Wylie yesterday.
“We stand by what was said in October.”
Former auditor general Peter Valentine was commissioned by the Alberta Energy Ministry to come up with the new $600,000 report that looked at claims made by the current auditor general, along with making recommendations to enhance the royalty system’s accountability and transparency.
