VICTORIA, B.C. – Premier Gordon Campbell’s Liberals are in an Olympic party mood after enduring an autumn season of bad news at the legislature.
The Liberals might be looking for a big snow bank to bury their deficit budget under before gleefully sliding into a Winter Games celebration that puts the emphasis on fun during fiscal hard times.
The fall legislative session ends with the Liberals predicting an Olympic gold rush for the province.
New Democrat house leader Mike Farnworth says the NDP held the Liberals to account throughout the fall on Olympic spending and secrecy, the proposed harmonized sales tax and budget cuts to social, education and volunteer organizations.
But Liberal House leader Mike de Jong says the government made tough decisions in difficult times, and the Games will bring opportunities that will have the NDP cheering from the sidelines.
The Opposition New Democrats have their party convention this weekend.
