Backfield Bear powers Giants’ running game

As the Giants venture into Cowboys Stadium on Monday night, they’ll do so with as much confidence as they’ve had all season.

The Giants have weathered the storm of unhappy players (Osi Umenyiora and Brandon Jacobs), new starters (Ahmad Bradshaw, Antrel Rolle, Jon Goff, Keith Bulluck and Bear Pascoe), bad losses (Colts and Titans) and key injuries (Mathias Kiwanuka, Madison Hedgecock and practically the entire offensive line). Through it all, the Giants (4-2) still managed to go on a three-game winning streak.

One of the unsung heroes so far has been the third-string tight end Pascoe. When Hedgecock went down, it was Pascoe who stepped in at fullback. Although Pascoe’s impact hasn’t shown up on the stat sheet, his presence has been felt — and appreciated — in other ways.

“He’s helped when there’s been an error inside when someone picked up the wrong person and he shifted out to pick up his man,” coach Tom?Coughlin said. “A lot of his plays have been heads-up plays.”

Those plays have opened holes for the NFC’s best ground game, as the Giants have recovered from their Week 3 debacle in Indy.

“I’m just doing my job when my number is called,” Pascoe said. “I’ll do whatever I can to help this football team.”
