Bail hearing pushed to later this week

An Edmonton man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Halifax hotel this month will stay in custody until at least Wednesday.

Andrew Norman Wilson is charged with sexual assault, aggravated assault, choking, forcible confinement and unlawfully being in a dwelling after an incident on April 3 at the Four Points Sheraton on Hollis Street in Halifax.

The 21-year-old’s bail hearing began Friday in Halifax provincial court but was adjourned until Wednesday.

Wilson, once a combat engineer stationed at CFB Edmonton, will remain in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth.

Police say an American couple had just checked into the hotel when the female victim left to get something from a vending machine.

It was then, police say, the woman was confronted by a man who began sexually assaulting her.

In an effort to escape, police say the woman convinced the man to take her back to her room, where she yelled for her husband.

Police say the assailant then began assaulting the husband, while the woman went to the front desk for help.

Police say the suspect was found in the hallway on the fourth floor.
