Newly created Ward 3 will be the most hotly contested ward in the city come Oct. 18.
There are nine candidates hoping to represent the ward in a northern pocket of the city.
Terry Demers ran for council in 2004 but lost. Since then she’s been serving as Ron Hayter’s executive assistant and plans to rely on her experience gained in that role in this campaign.
Dave Loken also has experience running for council. The University of Alberta grad ran in 2004 and 2007, finishing third in both races.
He said he is looking forward to knocking on doors and hearing what citizens have to say about their city.
John Oplanich said he is a councillor of the people and is proud to say his campaign is 100 per cent self-funded.
Greg Siver’s reason for running in Ward 3 is simple: The EMT said he loves his city. Siver said, as a councillor, he would put a halt to urban sprawl.
Louis Sobolewski said voters have a difficult decision to make Oct. 18 because all the candidates running in Ward 3 are capable and qualified individuals.
However, he adds he believes he has the experience to represent the ward in council.
Kim Cassady, Shawn Philip Fairbridge, Hatem Naboulsi and Michael Suess round out the list of candidates vying to represent the 64,000 people in Ward 3.
