Coming in from the bright sunlight to a dimly-lit, wood ensconced environment required some adjustment for the eyes. But once seated, the beauty of the surroundings began to captivate. Artifacts from Thailand hint at the authenticity of the menu.
The Combination Plate ($13.95) is a great place to start since it includes samplers of several Thai specialties. The spring rolls were crisp and tasty with just the right amount of zing. The Green Curry with Beef tasted a touch dirty, and the Chicken with Ginger, Mushroom and Onion was heavy on the ginger. Fluffy, steamed rice was welcomed between bites of hot ginger spiciness.
The stir-fried vegetables were a little oily and lacked variety. But the sweet ginger tea was perfect.
Sweet Basil is a sweet, but slightly lacklustre, place to go for an intimate lunch with a friend.
