The New York City Department of Hygiene and Mental Health and Health and Hospitals Corporation announced earlier this week that Bellevue Hospital will primarily serve any Ebola patients in the future.

The country’s oldest public hospital, on First Avenue between 26th and 28th Streets, has a special unit to treat patients with the virus.

The city’s private and public hospitals continue to run Ebola drills. A “buddy system” is being used at the city’s public hospitals, according to HHC, to make sure healthcare workers stick to “infection control protocol.”

On Monday, two patients tested negative for Ebola at Bellevue, according to the HHC.

The HHC maintains healthcare workers and first responders have been receiving Ebola training and the necessary supplies to deter contamination since July.
