In the powerful drama Birdwatchers, a dispossessed tribe of Brazilian Guarani-Kaiowa Indians struggle between tradition and modern-life when they attempt to reclaim ancestral land by squatting on a wealthy farmer’s field. Virtually made without a script and starring first-time actors, Birdwatchers begins unsettled but ultimately delivers an unnerving look at the reality of an endangered culture, in spite of some slightly clichéd subplots.
