Police found a body inside a burning car early Thursday morning in a residential area next to an elementary school in South Burnaby.
The Burnaby Fire Department and RCMP were called to the burning car at Clinton Street at Plum Avenue just before 4 a.m. The body was discovered once the fire was extinguished.
Gary Gill, a neighbour who had just finished a graveyard shift, said the blaze was big “like a house fire” and generated a lot of smoke.
He added he didn’t hear any gunshots or an explosion before the fire.
RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen said in a release that the body was being investigated as a possible homicide case. The gender and age of the victim have not been determined.
On Thursday morning, the vehicle, a sporty-looking silver four-door sedan, was parked in the middle of Clinton Street adjacent to Clinton Elementary School.
