Body of latest soldier killed in Afghanistan returned to Canada

CFB TRENTON, Ont. – The body of the latest soldier to be killed in Afghanistan has been returned to Canada.

Pte. Alexandre Peloquin, 20, died on Monday during a foot patrol in Panjwai District, southwest of Kandahar City.

He was killed after an explosive device detonated.

Peloquin, known as Pelo by fellow soldiers, was a member of the 3e Bataillon, Royal 22e Regiment, based at Canadian Forces Base Valcartier near Quebec City.

He was born and raised in Brownsburg, Que., and joined the Canadian Forces in October 2007.

Peloquin’s death brings to 119 the total number of Canadian soldiers who have died on the mission to Afghanistan since it began in 2002.
