The Boston Bruins announced on Tuesday that the team will build a new practice facility at a massive development under construction in the Allston and Brighton neighborhoods.

Boston Bruins President Cam Neely said in a statement that the team signed a letter of intent for a long-term lease with the developer of Boston Landing, a 14-acre project that will also be home to the new world headquarters of New Balance.

“Since joining the Bruins in a front office capacity, a goal of mine has been to move the Bruins into a first-class practice facility and this agreement moves us closer to accomplishing that goal,” Neely said in a statement.

The agreement includes ice time and 25,000 square feet of dedicated locker room, training and office space. Construction is expected to being next spring and the facility is expected to open in the fall of 2016.

The Bruins currently practice at Ristuccia Memorial Arena in Wilmington, about 20 minutes north of Boston. The rink has served as the team’s training facility since the 1987-88 season.

“I am thrilled that we have found the Bruins a new practice home within the Boston city limits,” said Bruins Principal Charlie Jacobs, in a statement. “Our goal is to set the industry standard in everything that we do, and we are confident that our new practice facility will do just that.”

Boston Landing is a mixed-used development. Besides the New Balance building, projects include office space, retail shops, restaurants, a hotel and a Commuter Rail station for the Framingham-Worcester line with a completion date of fall 2016.
