Driver accused of dragging Boston police officers with SUV due in court

A Dorchester man accused of dragging two Boston Police officers with an SUV on Sunday night was due in court on Monday.

Bryant Gilbert, 45, allegedly drove an SUV about 70 miles per hour on Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan when two police officers pulled him over.Gilbert putthe SUV in drive and hit the two officers as they approached the vehicle, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.

One officer was dragged for a “significant distance” — 100 yards, CBS Boston reported-— while the other was able to get clear of the car after being dragged for a shorter distance, prosecutors said.

Both officers, who were not identified, were taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested Gilbert after he crashed his SUV moments later.

Gilbert was expected to be arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court on multiple charges.
