A homeless man who fled a local hospital in a stolen ambulance later crashed the vehicle into a police cruiser, authorities said Tuesday.

The “mentally disturbed” man, who was known to police, was being treated at an undisclosed hospital when he suddenly hopped into a Pro Ambulance parked outside and drove away, Cambridge police spokesperson Jeremy Warnicktold

Police eventually caught up with him near Third and Gore streets, where he crashed into the cruiser of a responding officer. Neither the officer nor the suspect was injured, Fox 25 reported.

The driver, Everett Goss, 48, of Cambridge, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and operating without a license.

He remained in police custody Tuesday night.
