Boy, 12, nabbed for armed heist

A 12-year-old Nanaimo boy has been arrested after an armed robbery, RCMP said yesterday.

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong said in a release that Mounties are especially concerned because this is the same child they’ve had more than 100 “dealings” with.

On Tuesday, two boys on bicycles approached a man exiting his vehicle, Armstrong said. The younger boy allegedly pointed a gun at the man and demanded the victim’s cellphone and other items.

The 12-year-old boy was arrested after the victim called 911 and gave police a description of the suspects.

The victim was not injured, but Mounties say he was distraught at having a gun pointed at him.
