British soldier injured in ‘assault’ at Suffield

An incident at CFB Suffield east of Calgary has left one British soldier in hospital with serious injuries.

The Royal Military Police remains tight-lipped on what happened but said that the incident occurred on the Suffield base at 5 a.m. Sunday morning, although a RCMP official called it an “aggravated assault.”

Those involved were from the 1st Battalion Scots Guards who are currently in Canada on exercise, said Capt. Roy Pierson.

During the incident, a 27-year-old man was critically injured with serious head injuries.

The soldier was transferred to a hospital in Medicine Hat, but has since been moved to a hospital in Calgary.

“At this time it would be inappropriate to comment because the investigation is ongoing,” said Pierson.

Pierson said he doesn’t want to compromise the investigation in and wouldn’t comment of the victim’s current state.

The investigation into what happened is ongoing and involves the RCMP and both the British and Canadian military.

Pierson didn’t know when the investigation would be completed.
