Brooklyn bar to offer women a gender pay gap special

Ladies, time to get yours.

In honor — or in spite of — the labor department statistic that a woman earns an average of 77 cents for every $1 a man earns, Brooklyn bar TheWay Station is cutting women a break for one night.

On July 7, the Dr. Who-themed bar in Prospect Heights will charge women 77 percent of their bar tab.

Bar owner Andy Heidel told Metro the evening is part off-beat event and social commentary.

“I have three sisters, half my customers are female and I feel it’s an important issue. A really amazing dialogue has started,” Heidel said.

“Twitter has been blowing up,” Heidel continued. “There are some haters out there, saying that Obama’s lying, but I get my numbers from the White House.”

Heidel said he’d like to see other businesses pitch in to recognize the pay gap and show women they deserve better.

In a June 2013 report on the 50th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, the White House said women still make about 77 cents to every dollar earned by a man, and that women continue to work in lower-wage sectors at higher numbers.

The Way Station is located at 683 Washington Ave. between Prospect Place and St. Marks Avenue.
