An eighteen year old Brooklyn man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl was brought into custody on Saturday after leading police on a brief foot chase.
Julio C. Ayala of Brooklyn is accused of removing an air conditioner unit of a second floor window at Prospect-Lefferts Gardens before breaking inside, climbing up on the top bunk of a bed and brutally raping an 11-year-old girl while her brother slept below on the bottom bunk.
Brooklyn rapist’s arrest cheered by neighbors
After police came to locate and take the rumored gang member into his custody, he tried to flee out of a window at his home. He ran on foot and attempted to hide at a construction site where police captured him. When he was cuffed and arrested, Brooklyn neighbors began to cheer, happy the accused Brooklyn rapist was taken away by authorities.
Ayala reportedly appeared in court, looking unaffected and without much emotion, per NBC New York.
Brooklyn man admits to rape
He was charged with rape, sex-motivated burglary, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child, the NYPD stated. The man did admit to the crime, telling authorities he had never done anything like that before.
The prosecutor shared that the Brooklyn man, who left his Bulls hat behind at the scene of the crime, had a forged U.S. resident card and Social Security card.
Prior to his arrest, Ayala was living with his aunt, uncle and two cousins in Brooklyn. He was working at his uncle’s business, an air conditioning repair shop.
The Brooklyn man’s defense attorneystated that he is not a flight risk because of his ties to the community, but authorities believe he is a member of the international crime gang, MS-13.
