A Brooklyn nurse was found strangled with a shirt around her neck and an electrical cord strung around her legs on Monday afternoon, and police may have found a lead in the investigation.
Noreen Mulzac’s death was ruled a homicide yesterday by the medical examiner, and police are now searching for her adopted son, Jayvon Mulzac, the Daily News reported.
The 70-year-old mother, who was discovered dead around 2:15 p.m. in her bedroom, was reportedly regarded with respect by those who knew her in her Canarsie apartment building for having raised multiple adopted children like Jayvon.
Jayvon’s sister, Dominique Mackey, has not had contact with her brother, and the family continues to wait to reach him, they told media. Mackey implied it was possible her brother may have been the culprit, telling the Daily News, “If it was him, I just want to say: ‘You are a coward. Why did you do this to your mother?’”
Jayvon has allegedly brutalized his mother before, binding her and another relative with duct tape in 2006 and allowing another suspect, Jesse Hoyt, to pistol whip Mulzac before Hoyt took off with her car keys, money, laptop and jewelry. In 2007, Jayvon received a three-year prison sentence after being convicted of possession of stolen property.
However, Jayvon reportedly is not an official suspect in Mulzac’s murder, just a person of interest.
The investigation into Mulzac’s murder is ongoing.
