Bryan Thomas returns after being cut Saturday

He wasn’t on the breadline for long.

Less than two days after being released by the Jets, linebacker Bryan Thomas was back with the team as part of yesterday’s roster shuffle that also saw the re-signing of wide receiver Patrick Turner and the release of defensive lineman Marcus Dixon, cornerback Donnie Fletcher and offensive lineman Dennis Landolt.

The plan all along was to bring back Thomas and his release on Saturday was due to the need to bring in another cornerback with an injury to Ellis Lankster hobbling the secondary.

But even though Thomas knew he was eventually going to be back, he still wasn’t happy with the situation.

“Pissed. Pissed. Ain’t no other word about it. Pissed. Man. That’s all I can say about that,” Thomas said.

“I feel OK. I can’t hold any animosity, like I said is that it is a business. My main focus is getting back on the field and helping this team win,” Thomas said. “At first was I angry? Yeah, it’s a job. It’s what I love; it’s what I’ve done my whole life. Was I angry? Yeah.”

Thomas, now in his 11th season in the league, has spent the entirety of his career with the Jets. Saturday’s move to cut him did sting a little bit, but even with the raw emotions, he didn’t want to put on any other colors than green and white.

“It would have been hard [to play for another team]. I’ve been a Jet for 11 years. [I] wouldn’t want to play for anybody else — no other organization. I love this organization,” Thomas said. “Drafted as a 21-year-old kid out of [University of Alabama-Birmingham], this is where I wanted to be, where I wanted to stay. I want to retire as a Jet.”

Gang Green notes

Fullback John Conner, out with a knee injury, said he will likely play this weekend. … In another bit of good news, tight end Dustin Keller told Metro that he’s optimistic he will be ready for the next game as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. … The same goes for Bryan Thomas, who noted that his hamstring is “lubricated” and feeling fine. … The status of rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill remains muddled as he too has a hamstring injury. Hill tweaked it in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win at Miami and head coach Rex Ryan called his availability “iffy.”
